Wall of Windows

Wall of Windows

Elements of Architecture ‘Wall of Windows’, at the University of Brighton Gallery, showcases the stunning Brooking National Collection of windows dating from the 17th century to the 1960s.

Shown together they have a real visual impact, emphasising the shapes and proportions of each design while making for an eye-catching installation as a whole. There is interest in each individual piece in seeing how it has been crafted, emphasised by stripped wood in some areas, and how that craft has evolved. The simple chronological layout also demonstrates how techniques, fashions and materials have changed over time, from elaborately moulded gothic arches to colourful modern and curved art deco shapes.

Elements of Architecture is open until 10th April. The exhibition catalogue is available here.
